The Token Society of Great Britain is an organisation dedicated to the study and preservation of Japanese swords, fittings and armour. We have been in existence for over 30 years and enjoy an international reputation for our studious approach to the subject.
All members are entitled to attend our meetings (for details see our meetings page) when informal talks, lectures and discussions are accompanied by sword viewing and kantei sessions. Other activities of the Society include the holding of To-Ken Taikai . These are "Sword shows" at which there is the opportunity to buy and sell, as well as to see the work of restorers. Our last To-Ken Taikai was held in November 1999.
Amongst our membership we have a number of restorers who are
independent workers rather than being employed by the Society.
These include tsuka-maki shi (hilt wrapper), Saya-shi
(scabbard maker), habaki maker, tsuba-makers and a polisher.
Their help and advice is always available. For those who require
work done in Japan, our close contacts which number some of the
best restorers and artisans in the world may be utilised.
